On September 10, NASA captured an image of the sun emitting a large solar flare at around 12:06 p.m. NASA’s Solar Dynamic Observatory captured these images. The observatory is observing the sun’s activity constantly.

The solar flares have been standardized as class X8.2. The X class stands for most intense flares and the number describes its strength. From this, one can now easily understand the intensity of the class X8.2 solar flares.

Before this, NASA has also detected two medium level solar flares on September 7. On September 6, NASA also imaged two large solar flares that erupted from the sun. The most powerful solar flares that NASA recorded was X9.3 class. It has happened after 11 years as the period of the solar cycle which began in December 2008 and is now moving towards solar minimum by decreasing its intensity.

The solar flare has the capacity to disturb radio communication system and cause Radio black out.

Reports say that the explosion on the sun caused by the solar flares is so strong that it can tear apart the sun. The explosion is called as Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). If it hits the earth, the affect range can be anonymous to catastrophic.

As per the latest warning issued by the Space Weather Prediction Centre, the new solar flares can disturb the earth’s radio communication moderately at North and South America and can last for around one hour.

The harmful rays from Coronal Mass Ejection can’t pass through the Earth’s atmosphere, but the higher the ray, the more its effects on electronic and radio device.

NASA’s statement clearly mentioned that the X9.3 solar flare is the most intensified flare that NASA has ever recorded. Now the solar cycle is moving towards solar minimum and such powerful eruption are increasingly. The reason behind such eruption is not yet known by anyone.

The solar flares coming from the sun can be a serious matter for the Earth. If the flares hit the earth with a full charge, they can shut down all communication systems starting from airliners to satellites, GPS signals, mobile networks and others.  If the radium levels of the rays go high, it can also be risky for astronauts of international space station and airline passengers. The entire Earth can go through a blackout.

History says that a direct hit from Coronal Mass Ejection happened in 1989 and had caused severe threat in the Canadian state of Quebec. The whole area went through a blackout for more than nine hours. In 1985, a similar case happened in which the entire telegraph wires failed to work worldwide. If such powerful flares strike again, the Earth can face a severe disaster.
