The earth is suffering from high-level air pollution. To sustain on the Earth and in the Space human needs breathable air. Aerosol, a tiny particle now becomes a headache for the Scientists. It can contribute to numerous health problems like the problem in breathing, respiratory tract irritation, asthma and much other health problem.
To take control on the Aerosol particle, NASA is going to conduct a competition on the Aerosol sensor. NASA design. NASA has also announced a $1000, 000 cash prize for this. One who will give a low-cost and lightweight aerosol scanner to NASA will get the cash prize. The aerosol sensor will scan the air and monitor air quality for human and space traveler. When traveling in space, by using the Aerosol sensor astronauts can able to monitor the air quality inside the spacecraft and if any problem arises, they can inform that to engineers.
The Earth and Space Air Prize completion to develop a low-cost aerosol scanner design will sponsor by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). The competition will promote the development of robust, durable, cheap, and easy to use the aerosol sensor for space and Earth. Teams and individuals will design and develop specialized sensor technology that will be used in spaceflight and on Earth where people me exposed to airborne particles.
As per Paul Mudgett, from NASA’s Biomedical Research and Environment Science Division, the existing aerosol instrument technology is very large and its sensor level also very low. Now the combined program with RWJF will eliminate these lacks.
The Earth and Space Air competition will be held in two phases. Competitors can register themselves until 13 December 2017 for the first phase of the contest. By 31 January 2018, thy must submit their sensor design. After the submission, NASA will announce the name of three finalists by the end of March 2018. These finalists will be given $50,000 as an award to build the prototype. After that, Prototype should be submitted at the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio by 30, September 2018 by the three finalists. The prototype will be tested and evaluated there.
The final result and the name of the winner will announce in mid-October of 2018 and will be awarded by $100, 000 grand prize.
Maker will have the all the rights to the technology. To use in future NASA can negotiate for a license for the sensor.
