Although we have been testing the Creators Update for Windows 10 on PCs and Mobile devices since late previous year, the update, which is targeted towards all devices in the Windows 10 ecosystem, is now rolling out for testing to the Xbox One Update Preview Program. Meanwhile, others who found the Snap Mode experience cumbersome, are anxiously awaiting the "picture-in-picture" mode that is rumored to be coming soon to the Xbox One.
The new Xbox One update - which is now only available for Insider members - makes it easier to navigate the dashboard by reducing the number of button presses required to use various functions. Chief among them is the new Copilot feature that will help make the console more accessible to players with disabilities. The full details of the new update can be read here.
Finally, the Creators Update will get under-the-hood changes created to make system updates easier ("Our goal with system updates is that you never have to worry about them again", Microsoft says), as well as new accessibility features and audio settings, including the ability to pass bitstream audio to your receiver for native decoding.
This new program will slowly roll out over the next several weeks so make sure you have the Xbox Insider Hub installed and that you are completing those polls, survey's and quests!
"In addition to adding a new start page to Guide, we're also evolving our multitasking system", Henson said.
Speaking of speed, the Guide screen can now be accessed easily and faster just by touching the Xbox button. Microsoft's personal voice assistant will be able to set reminders and alarms so you don't miss gaming sessions, and the company says more Cortana integrations are on the way. In the coming weeks, more updates will be applied to Cortana in order to enhance the gaming experience.
Our goal with system updates is that you never have to worry about them again, and to make it clearer when a system update is available.
Along with the UI improvements, the update also brings in a few enhancements made to Cortana, which makes the Xbox One a lot smarter. To enable this we are updating the interface so the steps are easy to understand. New accessibility options are being added, which are meant to make the Xbox One more inviting to gamers who need assistance. Also thrown into the mix is the Xbox One Windows 10 Creators Update's biggest change: an all-new Xbox Guide that allows users to get to settings and games with as little effort as possible. You can find these accessibility options, and more, in Settings Ease of Access.
Microsoft is also adding improving its Magnifier and Narrator features as well, giving players more options over audio output and custom rumble settings on the controller. For Xbox One owners, hang tight and soon you'll be able experience even more incredible audio on your console. All bitstream formats are supported, including newer ones like Dolby Atmos. The Blu-ray disc player on the Xbox One will now support a beta of bitstream passthrough, which allows receivers to decode audio natively.
